Assistance medical doctors look after travellers and expatriates with medical problems abroad and during their journey. They make it possible, especially with the help of modern telecommunications, for patients all over the world and far away from their home country to receive medical care.
In this new field, there are many new medical and legal questions that have not yet been discussed in detail. A curriculum for further training in assistant medicine is currently being developed by the German Society for Travel Medicine. It will cover clinical and non-clinical aspects as well as the cross-sectional character of the subject.
